      Hey if you're getting ready to attempt this. Check out total boat gelcoat paste it has everything he just mixed up in it. You can get it from spectrum to if you give them the HIN they can match the factory color with it so filling and finish come out easier and without trying to use pigments to match the hull color.

    This video makes no sense to me. at 0:45, you say that when the primer is "thumb-print-tacky" you then apply the clear. But at 1:15 you tell us to sand the primer with 220 before applying clear. WHICH IS IT? You can't sand something that's tacky.

    Yeah I got a m3 but there is NO WHERE to find what filters I need and I've tried dozens of searches. Not one fucking idiot has the information new people NEED. It's so stupid to see videos and web pages all acting as if they are talking to vets on the subject but address absolutely 0 critical things new individuals should know key words especially. I can't find an answer to what filter I need for Krylon UV-resistant clear spray even the god damn product sheet on the site says jack shit about it. We got all these products yet no way to tell wtf we need if we are new because we don't know what SPECIFICS we need to research. No product lables have helped or are lacking actual descriptions and critical key information to lock down any kind of conclusion. I know about oil based and organic but I'm not an alchemist I'm not about to invest 100 hours into searching for something that should be on the product itself andr box etc without ANY kind of ACTUAL lead on what I need. Stupid people always get to be in charge.

    I'm confused. The Awlgrip website (Akzo Nobel) says that none of these products are to be applied "below the waterline". So how are so many of these RUclips folks using Awlgrip successfully on boat hulls? I'd like to use it to repaint my Crestliner but the OEM guidance to not use below waterline is concerning. What "should" we be using below the waterline?

    • @jamespratt5509
      @jamespratt5509 2 месяца назад

      These products are only to be applied above waterline on the hull or the superstructure. Below the waterline you would typically use bottom Paints ( antifoul or Coppercoat )

    • @jamespratt5509
      @jamespratt5509 2 месяца назад

      But on the other hand if your boat is trailered or stored ashore then these topcoats are fine for the bottom. Just not if you are keeping it berthed in water for long periods.

    How do you check the fin cant with this method?

    • @karlbryant7690
      @karlbryant7690 7 месяцев назад

      you cant check the cant with this method LOL. I come from the era of glass ons tri fins and twins and single fin boxes and single fin glass ons..literally thousands of fins over my 25yrs career. I was a master at every step of the glassing process, one of the few that learned how to build a board from start to finish in my backyard at age 13 and by time i was 16 working at Canyon surfboards a legendary shop and a couple others too ... however was still building in my back yard ha ha ha Maybe TMI but I have some chops. In the old days a FU box had 4 tabs on the top that layed flat to the surrounding surface if they were perfect flush to the surrounding surface you could be confident the single fin box was perfectly perpendicular. These boxes also required a plug to keep the fins slot from pushing in while the resin cured. for my personals I always put a fin in and eye balled it from the nose AND taped it ....but we never put a fin in for production boards with ad FU box.... (hence why some pros at large production factories may or may not use dummy fins, check with protractor or guide AND tape) They have done enough box installs that it will be *pretty close*. however the FCS2 box does not have these tabs on top like the old FU single fin box to ensure the box is perfectly flush and perpendicular to the surrounding surface without the use of a dummy fin. This guy is a pro and knows how to feel around the edge of the box to be *reasonably* confident that the plug is sitting flush in the cavity and pretty close to what the box cant is designed to be. You have to feel with your fingers all around the edge to make sure the top of the box is flush all the way around. **however its highly possible the plug can shift slightly as the resin cures** IF you use a dummy fin and check with a protractor or dedicated guide and tape the fin you will know the fin cant is dead on for what the box is supposed to be. **tape and dedicated cant template is what you use when glassing on fins. **i can guarantee the box guy uses dummy fins and checks and rechecks with a protractor and sweats alot when he is doing someone like JJF boards. ***as we sweated when doing glassons for people like Shaun Tompson, Ian Cairns, Peter Townend, the Parmenter bros, the list of top in the world pros was long when I worked at Canyon. **you are always taking a risk that the cant will not be what the box is designed to be if you dont use dummy fins, check with a guide and tape. I started building my own boards again however the 2 boards I have bought off the rack in the last 2yrs (FCS2) from two of THE biggest names in the industry $800 and $900 boards ....the cant is not correct for ANY of the boxes when checked with the protractor that is typically used in the industry. for quads typ set up is 9deg fronts 5 deg rears $800 quad fronts are supposed to be 9deg.... they are 5deg rears are supposed to be 5 deg ....they are 3deg *at least consistently incorrect LOL $900 board the fronts are supposed to be 9deg.... one is 6.5deg one is 6deg the rears are supposed to be 5deg ... they are both 4deg Soooooo in the end will YOU be able to tell if your fins are off by 1 or 3.5 deg.....probably not....can JJF tell....absolutely. All I can say if you are board shopping and care... feel free to get the type of protractor used i the industry to install boxes .... have your local shop put fins in and check. You might also want to put a center fin in and eyeball from nose to tail to see if its perpendicular. I guarantee they probably have NEVER had someone check fin cant with a protractor prior to buying a board. THE END

    • @Fitandover40
      @Fitandover40 7 месяцев назад

      @@karlbryant7690 asking because I was building my first board. But if others that have the balls to sell boards at 900 and don't check, then why would I care lol. Its good to know though that once more, sellers of all industries are willing to do whatever it takes to cheat and make more profit. I rather spend that on materials to make my own boards. Thanks
